With the passage of Engrossed Substitute House Bill (ESHB) 2076, we were thrilled to provide driver partners with access to new benefits starting on January 1, 2023.
For more details about the bill, please see:
Continued Flexibility.
Washington’s TNC law allows you to retain your flexibility as an independent contractor to work when you want and as much as you want.
Minimum Compensation.
Starting January 1, 2024, we will ensure that your weekly compensation will always exceed an earnings floor set by the new TNC law. For 2024, the minimum compensation requirements are:
- Seattle Trips
(Trips originating in Seattle) - The greater of:
$0.66/minute for passenger platform time + $1.55/mile for passenger platform miles
or
$5.81 per trip
- Non-Seattle Trips
(Trips entirely outside of Seattle) - The greater of:
$0.38/minute for passenger platform time + $1.31/mile for passenger platform miles
or
$3.37 per trip
- Trips Ending in Seattle
(Trips originating elsewhere and ending in Seattle) - The greater of:
The combined total of the Seattle and Non-Seattle rate for each respective portion
or
$5.81 per trip
- “Passenger platform time” refers to the time spent transporting one or more passengers, and “passenger platform miles” refers to the distance traveled with a passenger in the vehicle. Note that in a shared-ride service, a trip starts when the first rider gets into the vehicle and ends when the last rider leaves the vehicle.
Rest assured – we remain committed to providing you the opportunity to earn predictable and competitive rates for all time you are available to accept trips on the Via Platform! This means that you will continue to earn on an hourly basis, without regard to the number of trips you provide or the amount of time/distance you spend transporting riders.
In the unlikely event that your weekly gross hourly earnings fall below the amount you would have earned if you had been compensated on a per trip basis, we will “top up” your weekly earnings to match or exceed that minimum compensation amount.
In accordance with the new law, we will start providing receipts for each trip. Please note that these receipts will be for informational purposes only; you should continue to refer to your Weekly Earnings Report for details regarding your weekly pay.
Paid Sick Time.
Starting January 1, 2023, driver partners are eligible for paid sick time. You will earn one hour of paid sick time for every 40 hours of passenger platform time worked. Please see our Paid Sick Time Policy for more details.
Workers’ Compensation.
Starting January 1, 2023, driver partners receive workers’ compensation coverage for injuries occurring during passenger platform time and dispatch platform time (time spent traveling to pick up a passenger). Benefits for allowable claims can include partial wage replacement and medical services.
Deactivation Appeals.
For certain cases, in the event that you receive a notice that you are permanently disaffiliated or restricted from accessing the Via Platform for over three days, you will now receive an opportunity to appeal this decision.
Driver Resource Center.
The Department of Labor & Industries has contracted with the Drivers Union to operate a Driver Resource Center (“DRC”). The DRC will be able to support drivers in resolving disputes related to certain account deactivations, and will provide culturally appropriate driver services, outreach, and education.
